Here at the Butterworks, we believe that it’s so important to know where our food comes from, how and where it’s grown and farmed, through to how it’s produced. More and more people are becoming more aware of where their food is from and what they are putting into their bodies and we couldn’t be happier.

Being more aware about where our food comes from can improve our health, but will also have a huge effect on the local economy and support all the local businesses and workers involved in the process.

So we thought we’d share with you some more information on where we are from and how our butter is made!

The Butterworks was set up in 2019 by Castle Dairies as a new innovative butter brand. Castle Dairies is a local, family run business that has been churning cream for over 40 years in Caerphilly, South Wales. Originally set up in 1966 as a milk bottling dairy and Caerphilly cheese maker, local, high quality ingredients have always been at the heart of the company and is what we believe makes our products taste so great.

All of our products are made using British cream sourced from Red Tractor Assured Farms, as we want to ensure that our products are traceable, safe and farmed with care, whilst supporting British dairy farmers. The cream is then taken to our dairy in Caerphilly to be carefully churned and hand salted.

No additives or colourings, our delicious Softer Butter is made from British cream from the fresh pastures of the British countryside.

We think Britain is the best place in the world to make butter. With unspoilt valleys where summers are mild and rain is plentiful, we get lush green fields all year round which produces the most fresh and flavoursome grass… Perfect for making delicious British butter.
